Dental Crowns

Restoring Your Teeth

Dental crowns are a type of restoration that can be used to strengthen an existing tooth by being placed over the damaged tooth. They can also be fitted to a dental implant to replace a single missing tooth.

This patient had her upper-right premolar tooth removed. She hated the food getting stuck in her gum and wanted to be able to restore her chewing function as well as get rid of the gap in her smile. She was also conscious of the effects missing teeth can have on the gum support of adjacent teeth. Replacement with a implant retained crown resolved her issue without impacting the adjacent teeth. Treatment time was 3 months

Why Would You Need a Dental Crown?

The most common reasons a crown may be used is when a tooth has broken down naturally (or due to tooth decay/trauma), and the damage is too great to be restored with either filling or inlays and onlays. The uses of crowns include:

  • Repairing broken/worn down teeth
  • Used alongside bridges or on dental implants to replace missing teeth
  • To restore teeth that have had a root canal
  • To improve the aesthetics of a tooth if you have some discoloured fillings

DM was getting food stuck around their front teeth. It was uncomfortable and irritating. They also did not like the overall appearance of the teeth. The old crowns were carefully removed and new crowns were designed and fabricated to create a more harmonious smile
